What is the AIR-EDGE Service?

A

AIR-EDGE (pronounced “air edge”) is a proprietary wireless connection service that allows for convenient mobile Internet usage on your notebook, or PDA (standard desktop machines can also be used). A variety of AIR-EDGE plans, including unlimited usage plans, are available to meet your needs. AIR-EDGE connection devices will usually support both 128Kbps and 32Kbps packet communication. Some devices also support a “Flexchange” communication system enabling automatic switching between 32Kbps (when data transmission is low or idle) and 64Kbps (when data transmission is more intense). The service area covers most of Japan so you can benefit from wireless Internet access on the go. Please refer to the WILLCOM homepage for more details. (Japanese only)

What are the Packet Switching and Flexchange Systems?

A

The two different communication systems have the following characteristics.

• Packet Switching System
  With the Packet Switching System (32K/128K), data is transmitted in divided packets allowing efficient delivery of multiple data transfers over a single line.

• Flexchange System
  The Flexchange System automatically switches between 64K PIAFS (optimal conditions) and the 32K Packet Switching System according to the size and intensity of the data being transmitted.

Can I connect to GOL by dialing a PIAFS access point number with my AIR-EDGE connection device?

A

Yes, you will be able to connect if your device is PIAFS compatible, but you will be charged the standard connection fee.

Q

I can't connect.

A

This is most likely to do with a wrong user ID, password, or your connection device is set to not display your phone number on the recipient side. The phone number assigned to your device is used during the authentication procedure and it must be made visible to us. Contact the FUSION GOL Customer Center to confirm your user ID or password. Contact your connection device's vendor for support in displaying your assigned phone number.

How to connect with AIR-EDGE / How to sign up

A

Customers need to purchase an AIR-EDGE connection device and apply for AIR-EDGE service at a local WILLCOM dealer before applying for an AIR-EDGE account from FUSION GOL.

How do I cancel my AIR-EDGE service?

A

You can cancel your AIR-EDGE online via the Member's Station or otherwise, please contact the FUSION GOL Customer Center. Please be informed that canceling your AIR-EDGE does not cancel your WILLCOM AIR-EDGE subscription. You need to submit a separate request for cancellation to WILLCOM separately.

What are the transfer rates?

A

For 32K Packet Switching: Max. Downstream 32Kbps, Max. Upstream 17Kbps.
For 128K Packet Switching: Max. Downstream 128Kbps, Max. Upstream 68Kbps.
For the Flexchange System: Max. Both Downstream and Upstream of 64Kbps.
