About Service

Q

What are the benefits of having a Static IP?

A

FUSION GOL's Static IP service provides you with unique Static IP addresses for use in combination with GOL "FLET'S Hikari Next", GOL "B-FLET'S" or GOL "FLET'S ADSL" services. Run a DNS, Mail, WWW server, or VPN end-point from within your own private network. You can choose from 1, 8, 16, or 32 depending on your network needs.

Q

I want to build network environment at office but don't have a network specialist. Can FUSION GOL do onsite support?

A

FUSION GOL Corporate Services can provide you with a preconfigured router to meet most small networking needs. If you require further network support, we can arrange for a technician to go to your premises.

Q

Is a router required for the service?

A

Static IP service does not require the use of a router. However, if you are using a multiple IP Address package and have multiple network devices requiring the Static IPs, you will need a routing device to distribute the addresses on the network. Otherwise, for a single Static IP Address, a single network device can be used along with a PPPoE client.

Q

What is required if I move and want to continue this service?

A

The Static IPs are region-specific throughout Japan. If you move outside your current city or prefecture, it may be necessary for your IP Address to be reassigned. Please keep in mind that it is also necessary to contact NTT about any change in location so that they can prepare to move your FLET'S Service line.

Q

What if I have an existing IP Address that I wish to change over to FUSION GOL?

A

Unfortunately, existing IP Addresses cannot be carried over to FUSION GOL Static IP service.

Q

Is it possible to use the specific IP address which I want to have?

A

Static IP Addresses are assigned by the network authorities based on their availability. It is not possible to specify which IP will be used.

Q

What is a PPPoE?

A

Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) is an Internet standard protocol used to create a virtual dialup connection over broadband services using a username and password.

Q

Which areas will have this service available?

A

To find out what areas are available, please consult with NTT:

NTT East: http://www.flets.com/
NTT West: http://flets-w.com/

Q

Can I keep the same IP address when if I switch to a different FLETS service the future?

A

IP Addresses are assigned based on their service type. If a change in services is made, a change in IP address is required.

Technical Issues

Q

What are the DNS server settings?

A

DNS server settings are provided to the PPPoE client automatically by the server. If any manual setting of DNS address is required, you can use the FUSION GOL DNS Servers or others of your choice:

203.216.70.70
203.216.71.70

Q

If I use my own Domain, how can I set up DNS?

A

If DNS services are needed for your domain name, FUSION GOL can provide either Primary or Secondary DNS.

Q

How many of IP address can I use if I use StaticIP8 Plan, 16Plan or 32Plan?

A

Standard network theory suggest that you reserve 2 IP addresses, one for your network address and one for your broadcast address. This will leave you with your service range of addresses minus two. For example:

Static 8 IP: 6 Usable Addresses

Static 16 IP: 14 Usable Addresses

Static 32 IP: 30 Usable Addresses

Q

What configuraitons are needed to use Static IP?

A

To set up your FUSION GOL Static IP service, you will need a PPPoE client, installed on either a router or a computer interface, and your FUSION GOL username and password.

Q

Is it possible to set ip a LAN with the 1 Static IP Address plan?

A

Yes, it is possible to use your single static IP address for the WAN interface of your network router in combination with NAT addressing on your LAN.

Q

What is the best way to allocate multiple Static IP Addresses on a LAN?

A

Example using 8 Static IP service of 202.215.127.48/29:

202.215.127.48: Network address
202.215.127.49: Router address
202.215.127.50-54: Use for network devices
202.215.127.55: Broadcast address

Q

What is an "Unnumbered"?

A

IP Unnumbered allows you to assign a global static IP address to an internal network device's interface.
