FAQ

About Service

Q

What's a virtual private server?

A

A virtual private server is a merger between a dedicated server and a shared server. Although customers share the same CPU, memory, and other system resources on a virtual private server, files cannot be seen by other users. It works just like a dedicated server.

Q

How do I decide that I need a virtual private server?

A

A virtual private server is recommended to customers who are considering a dedicated server, or if they are not satisfied with their current shared server service. The cost is roughly in between the price of a shared server and a dedicated server, making it available at an affordable price. A virtual private server is a lot safer than a shared server because other hosted sites can not be seen.

Q

Is a virtual private server really safer than a shared server?

A

Yes. The configuration of the file system on the virtual private server makes it safer than a shared server. Even though the CPU, memory, and network connection are shared, the file system is never shared. In other words, if one customer's virtual private server goes down, it will not affect other customer's at all. On the other hand, a shared server has only one file system, thus allowing users to see all other sites being hosted on the server. If users fraudulently access a site on the shared system, they will be able to access all sites on that server.

Q

Why would I need a virtual private server more than a shared server?

A

There are many limitations on a shared server and one of the bigger ones is that you will not be able to compile your software or install anything, For example, even if you wanted to use SSL on your Web server, you may not be able to set it up on your host. On a virtual private server, you are given full control of your own server where you can freely install any needed software.
